When it comes to teaching, Goldsboro Elementary primary teachers strive to keep the excitement in learning while teaching the standards. The primary grades program consists of a well-balanced curriculum, which focuses on high academic expectations, yet remains developmentally appropriate. Classroom computers, interactive whiteboards, laptops and iPads provide student the opportunity to interact with technology as part of the learning process throughout the day.
The love for reading is taught in both large and small group instruction through songs, poetry, phonics, sight word development, fluency and comprehension instruction. Children are exposed to writers' workshop and given many opportunities to express themselves through drawing and writing. Math and science are taught through a variety of modalities to engage all levels of learners with a hands-on investigative approach in order to promote problem solving skills and critical thinking. Building a strong foundation in basic skills and concepts is evident not only within the self-contained classrooms but during activities in the unique magnet labs as well.
